This guy knows his shit. Even after all these years later, XMPP is still the most secure IM protocol there is. It's secure against cyber attacks, against feds, against court, against whatever. Since it's just a protocol everyone can write their own client and server for it, or just use somebody else's -- there are hundreds to choose from. Just download it and start using it.

Heard where, from who and what was their explanation? Matrix reinvents the wheel, and the motor, and the suspension, and the whole car while XMPP is the battle-tested decades old standard. Well just because something is old doesn't mean it's good. IRC is old and has plenty of security issues. I forget the specific reasons why though so I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but, I know i've had a conversation about xmpp vs matrix before. I use both, but, I was just saying what I heard.
