Patriotism Regarding Third-World Countries

What are your thoughts on flying the flags of countries such as Ukraine, as they endure hard times such as the current war with Russia? I have heard the arguments of many right-leaning Americans that are opposed to this practice, and believe it is unpatriotic. On the other hand, I believe that it shows a love and passion for ones nation and beliefs that outweighs lines in the dirt, and instead promotes supporting those who share our passion for freedom.

Seems harmless enough. I think the intent behind an American waving a Ukrainian flag is to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people rather than to express patriotism for their country

Ukraine has always been divided by the Ukrainian nationalists (such as the government that sits in Kiev now) and the Russian-leaning public. Ukrainian nationalism is not new - Prior to WW2 they suffered at the hands of the communists (With millions dying in purposeful hunger) and so many Ukrainian nationalists joined the Nazis against the Soviets during the war.
