It basically draws out how Western Media (compared to say Dictatorships) actually has a level of thought control by using single examples of counter points, usually 1 line a body of text to give the essence of balance. Also, by creating news in quick formats, the whole idea of contextual and nuanced debate aren't viable by the medias very own construct.

Plus the tabloidification of EVERYTHING hasn't really helped either.

Haven't read that particular one, but Chomsky is a great thinker.

Read it as a teen, left a deep impression on me. There is a good documentary (with Chomsky) discussing it. A must watch.
Chomsky is one of the greatest thinkers of our time and unrivaled linguist... however, cannot help but think that all this anti-establishment stuff really caught up with him. Meaning that he has had no boundaries for decades now, and some of his theories are pretty far fetched. Then again, if you got massacred by the mass media for decades, that would do it for you, and you'd become even more certain ur right.

All in all, a very complex character. Reminds a bit of the unabomber and even Bobby Fisher. To be very missed once he departs.

You'll find that many anti-establishment characters aren't fondly looked at it in the lens of modern media.

Even revolutionary action is romanticized, such as Suffragettes who threw axes at politicians, burned buildings down etc, their fight was seen as important in the halls of time, but fast forward to today, any revolutionary proposal to an evidently unfair system is brushed aside, stunted or criminalized.

I guess it's pretty interesting. Somehow I thought everyone here would call him a traitor commie or something..
I would also say that propaganda works in a similar way in Russia, perhaps even China.

There are absolutely big comparisons that can be drawn between western propaganda and those from dictatorships (Notice how Dictatorships aren't monopolised by Murdoch media?)
The way our model works is to produce an article with a slant (Propaganda in it's original form) then offer a small insert of a counter argument to give the impression the whole article is balanced.

Whats worse is that our use of the word 'Propaganda' has been skewed in modern times, where as it was originally 'an argument with a slant/favourability' but now it's seen as 'misinformation'

So there's 1 side of the argument that has its interests seen as 'news' but a counterpoint seen as 'propaganda'

Very true. The world is becoming increasingly Orwellian. It's like Orwell saw the future, wrote it down and now the cunts are using it as an instruction manual.
