encryption with out http proxy is powerful and no body still broke that . but yes I know it has many disadvantages Fair. Although I fear it is a matter of time til their MTProto encryption gets hacked by the glowies since researchers have found some vulns in it over the years. They shouldn't be implmeneting their own crypto and instead using standard cryptography like other platforms do.

I agree. XMPP + PGP/OMEMO is prolly better than Telegram or any other "app" imo The medium (XMPP in this case) shouldn't even matter. PGP away in anything and you won't have to worry. XMPP clients all suck in their own respected way, and I wouldn't doubt glowies sitting on a pile of 0days for each one. They don't get a ton of funding for development cycles. Finding a good XMPP client is a bitch since most of them are old projects. Indeed the medium doesn't matter since PGP + email would even be better than telegram (or whatever new app comes out), as long as key exchange is secure.
