A laptop for programming must have certain features to make coding more accessible and efficient.
A processor of at least 5 GHz is necessary for most programming languages, and at least 4 GB of RAM is recommended.
The laptop should also have much storage space, as programming often requires large files.
A solid-state drive is ideal, as they are faster than traditional hard drives.

As cod said, an old Thinkpad is all you need to start, i think you would be good with a Thinkpad T460, you can find them used on ebay from 150 - 200 bucks.

I like the DELL Latitude models for programming,
32GB of RAM, more than 3GHz processor, and of course SSD hard disk to deal with operating system and IDEs loading time.

I have a laptop I got from walmart I do all my programming work on. Its an HP with an i3 1TB hdd & I upgraded the ram from 8 to 16 gigs. I have a new SSD im going to install in it soon. But it works perfectly for daily use / work .. its not a gaming laptop at all though but thats why ive a gaming rig haha.

I don't think an SSD is good for a programming laptop. An SSD is faster than an HDD, but is much less reliable. And if you do programming, all that code you write days and nights is probably more painful to lose than to wait a little bit more while your code is being saved every time.

I would personally either recommend you a thinkpad T460s or basically any laptop from the Dell precision series.

SSD is for the operating system partition,
and it can be for the currently being edited copy of the code or application resources, which you should backup at least once everyday either online or to another/separate normal hard disk.
