Hi guys! I want to sign up on HTB but am asking if it is like hacking irl. Do I also learn there some things about opsec?

yes its like the real world

i dont know where or when I can apply the skills IRL but it does require hard thinking if you are doing it alone or no basic, maybe can try HTB academy or tryhackme first before jumping to htb

HTB tools and skills are exactly same as real-world hacking. Big difference is that HTB you do not worry about getting caught or fighting countermeasures. Recon, pivot, and exploit all same though.

i'm not a hacker

I've done some stuff on there boxes they're a good real world scenarios however when your on the free tier you have to compete against griefers that will try and destroy the box's before / ruin the challenge.

many of boxes on htb replicate real world vulnerability that had been exploited before

Everything you learn has value to it. Often times even something simple will help you out one day in a real world scenario.

HTB has some good stuff, and also a ton of videos/posts out there of people explaining how they achieved success on each challenge on HTB, which can help you to learn too, see how other people think about solving problems, and replicating their methods for yourself to see how it works/get used to tools etc.
