VPS stands for a virtualized environment (Virtual private server) that is often sold as a service relying on little to no downtime at all, particularly operating systems in this case. While RDP stands for Remote Desktop Protocol, which is often used as the primary protocol for Windows servers (VPS). Althought there are other protocols such as VNC, SSH, FTP, and the list goes on..

A VPS means Virtual Private Server.
It's pretty much your own private computer that runs 24/7. Usually there are multiple VPSs running on a single physical server.

Now to connect to a virtual private server, you need to use a communication protocol to access it. Thats where Remote Desktop Protocol comes in. It allows you to virtually connect to your virtual private server (Or any computer that has this feature enabled) so you don't need to physically go to where the virtual private server is located and connect a mouse/keyboard/monitor to manipulate it.

Remote Desktop Protocal (RDP) is a component of Microsoft Windows.
VPS is a virtual machine that you can use to host your data privately. VPS runs its own OS, so you can get a Windows or Linux VPS server.
