You could try tools like hashcat and/or john the ripper

You could use brute force using a simple Python script, this one could be useful

Hi,

I have a similar problem. I have a very very old Excel file possibly made using Excel 2003 which is password protected. It has an .xls extension. I did some research on the internet and apparently it is easy to crack it if it has a .xlsx extension, but my one doesn't.

I did some further research and found out that using Kali Linux there are tools available such as hashcat and john the ripper that should be able to crack it, but I do not know how to start. Could somebody guide me the right way? Also I don't know much about hashes, wordlists etc.

Cheers,
