system for replacing dead links

This is a forum whose focus is databases. It is common for links to be broken. A lot of interesting content ends up being lost over time because the authors of posts get tired of replacing download links.

Pompom and the forum administration do a wonderful job with the breached CDN, verifying and standardizing 'official content'. However, the vast majority of forum content is 'unofficial', it would be interesting to create a system for replacing dead links.

My idea: When a post was reported by Dead Link, the author would have a few days to put a new link and if he didn't, any member could send a new link and from that, the person who made the replacement would receive part of the credits from that time.
Another positive side is that it would avoid duplicate posts on the same subject whose only difference is the download link.

I have no experience with MyBB and because of that I don't know the technical limitations, but if some system of this type could be made, it would be very beneficial for the forum!

why don't the mods just do what they are paid for instead of talking shit in sb

Wouldn't recommend allowing the community to replace the dead links, this can be abused. But.. another idea can be a button on the thread that messages the OP of the invalid link,  After a threshold of users has been met, it will send an automated DM to the OP.  No need to reward credits to users who have reported dead links, this just complicates things.

Yes, there is a downside to the thing that people can exploit and to avoid that, when someone suggests a new link, moderators will check to see if it agrees with the content of the post.

It would also be interesting to create some restrictions to enable this new link replacement functionality for members who have certain requirements.

This is unavoidable when your staff team consists of children and immature people.

The issue of dead links has been mostly solved since I made a bot that detects dead links, however some still fall through the cracks.

If time goes by and a thread isn't fixed or the user is inactive, other users are fully allowed (and encouraged) to repost the thread for themselves and the old poster loses the chance to earn credits from the post.

I'm marking this as solved since I think this system we have is fine, if you think not then please post another suggestion and I can 100% look deeper.

Thanks !
