Hey, I was wondering, is becoming a hacker (ethical) in the future a good idea, like financially and how hard you work. Or should I stick to becoming a software engineer?

If you have a clean criminal record, good grades and some certs you can get into an entry level (ethical) role.
Most certs cost a few hundred dollars and the job would pay $30-100k depending on location. I guess you want Red Team work.

So kinda? It's a 9-5 job and you are earning livable wages.

Man, it really depends. If you got the money to spend on certs and shit like that, sure it's profitable if you get a official job

Living off BugBounty (eg Hackerone) is 100% fucking impossible, you will almost never find anything. and if you find something you might not even get paid for it (Fuck you Roblox for that).

So. Ethical Hacking working, liveable if its 9-5. Working off Bugbounty is a no go.

Ethical hacking, is deffinatly a good wage. Pen testing etc at some blue chips will get you around 2k a day.

white hat: no, unless you end up REALLY lucky and find a massive bug and get paid on bug bounty
black hat: much easier than white hat but comes with the risk of it obviously being illegal. Most common ways: selling databases, ransomware attacks, phishing accounts and selling them or demanding money for them, selling stuff like botnets or viruses.

Look into bug bounties if that's what you mean, most companies offer rewards for that
