I literally do not trust the chinese and find myself to be an upperclass citizen because I have not downloaded tiktok on any of my devices.

Absolutely right. I have some friends who are constantly stuck on it, some would rather that than come out and do an activity with the rest of us, sad stuff

I dont think this issue is exclusive to TikTok or any social media for that matter

Because the video is short, and can be doing it without the parent/guardian noticing. The differ with video games is you sit all days in your computer / video games console, makes you easily noticeable by your mother/wife/ girlfriend. That main premise of this kind of media is it easily to get viral, not about getting useful information or knowledge. And to be viral it is easier to be just an idiot. And the company sees this as opportunity, because you don't need to have a db like youtube does at start, and people will keep coming makes a video that even idiot can make. Tiktok is ruining cultures in the west. The western version of Tiktok encourages people to do stupid shit (and make borderline cp). While the Chinese version encourages people to invent and do productive things. It also limits their time on the app itself.\

I mean, you're right to an extent about how us in the West treat the app differently to the Chinese, but there was nothing to really instigate how Western users are treating it, if anything, Western users are just inclined to platform self-gratification or arrogance, all TikTok did was just hold up a mirror. This is why there's so many detractors trying to pin the blame the Chinese specifically for turning our 'culture' sour, when in reality, its just another bout of consumerism and it's just how we are as people.
