I have Mac and Linux machines, just recently started learning Linux and found out that both work pretty similar. Mainly doing data curation. Should I start working on Mac instead or stick with Linux? What would be better for long term?

Yeah, that's what I kinda heard, that both are build on the same platform. But as development of each OS goes? Is there one that looks more promising in the future? Any pros on one over the other?

I'd say it depends on your needs. Linux gives you A LOT more flexibility, 'cuz it's open-source, while with OS X you're stuck with what the developers push out.

Good advice thanks. Is there benefits to using the newest Ubuntu though or is it better to stick to LTS'? I'm using the 22 and it keeps freaking out, apps keep crash quite often. Friends use 20 and these issues are not so common for them.

I started learning Linux early out of sheer curiosity and have consistently used it since as it is extremely useful and more than likely will be around for a very long time.

Mac is dogshit, literally the antithesis to Linux which is free reign, while macs insist on the software you should use.
