7z as compression algo for leaks

hi,
I can see most of leaked files shared are compressed using 7z algorithm. Is there a reason for that ?
Why not gzip or xz (which compress more), my guess is lot's of people use windows and prefer 7zip ?

I rarely find 7z's these days
most threads contain either zip or rar

7zip provides a really nice and low compression ratio for binary and text files, especially when using PPMD method.

Usually I see rar's most commonly on other sites

7z is small. light weight and open source so its kinda a win win.

Indeed. I always use 7z for the sane reason.

isn't classic zip open source too?

I use btrfs with zstd compression on the whole drive. Much much faster than 7z.
