Hi guys,
was wondering which VMs u use and what the differences in their use are. For example if you use VMware 16 or Virtualbox or whatever. Is it good to get a free one?

I usually use VMware, which is more full-featured

IIRC there is free version of VMware, the community edition or VMware Workstation Player but you only can run 1 VM at a time
or you could just search the crack version of the pro edition

If you want to use a free tool, VirtualBox is the better option as it allows more customization and settings than the free VMWare version.

I use Oracle VM Box

In virtualbox you can run more than one machine at once (if your computer can handle that). And it's free. I find it easier to work with than vmware workstation. If you enable it in the menu on top of the screen you can copy/paste from your clipboard and for all I know, that isn't possible with vmware workstation.

I have never had a problem with VM VirtualBox

Just to clarify your talking about a hypervisor (software than runs VM's (Virtual machines) where as a VM is a container where you would have your OS installed in.

Personally I've used quite a few of them so here is my general breakdown:
VirtualBox - Go to for many beginners easy to use.
VMWare - Haven't used it much but similar to VirtualBox and with some extra features.
XenServer / XCP-NG - My go to for a delicate VM server
Libvirt - my go to on Linux for stuff like PCI-passthrough
