because CCTV cameras today are not CCTV 'closed circuit television' is not CLOSED CIRCUIT anymore as ppl tend to pay with their security for convenience. ppl buy cctv sets with remote connection so they can look on their phone how the camera is pointed at him on the couch; the security vulnerabilities are to stay.
same goes for everything stewpid that is connected and let's you change the setting in the comfort of your house while spending more time with your family, you love your family? buy new cctv internet system webcams.

Hikvision is full of shit as a company.
They have CCP written all over them.

I think the interesting thing is that they gained *root* shell, when the user themselves only had a restricted shell.

i.e. People might keep the unpatched software just so they can cool enhancements to their cameras. Like avoiding having any outside connections or using the cameras in ways that aren't intended.

I've spend much time rooting phones for various reasons, and being able to root all IoT devices after their warranty/support ends is actually a plus.

Call when NSFW releases a list of the most interesting cameras.
