lock yourself in a room if necessary.
Yeah I agree, this might be the best way. I tried this once but I ended up getting super sick and after a bit I reverted back. That isn't to show that cold turkey isn't effective, just more a sign of my own weakness.
When my dad went cold turkey, hed usually say havin someone help yer hold yerself accountable and off the ciggies drastically helped him out and that over time it gets easier and its just the first few weeks, tho ive heard that tryin NRT increases yer likeliness the quit but idk much on that I had a stroke trying to read this but I think I understand what you are trying to say. You really have to have accountablility in getting yourself off. Posts: 49 Threads: 0 Joined: N/A August 17, 2022 at 7:10 PM As someone who has quit multiple substances including a hardcore Nic addiction (4 20mg/ml juul pods a day) This is how I quit (this might take a few tries tho, don't feel discouraged):
1. No compromise - don't cut deals with yourself and rationalise even the smallest amount of use no matter the circumstance until at least 3 months of sobriety
2. Promise - firmly and confidently promise yourself and others that you "don't smoke anymore"(not "trying to quit"), literally tell a bunch of people, the shame you might incur from having lied to people/yourself sometimes keeps you from smoking
3. Realise - that during withdrawals your thoughts aren't rational and that there is a life after withdrawal which is 10x better than the constant ups & downs of drugs
4. Want - actually want to quit, don't just quit cuz somebody is telling you to, you have to fully despise the smoker life and not secretly enjoy parts of it as this will make all attempts of quitting futile
5. Refrain - When you get the temptation to smoke again after a certain amount of sobriety and you feel cocky, it's useful to have your thoughts journaled during withdrawal as a reminder to what you will inevitably have to go through if you smoke again. Having other hobbies like lifting/sports/reading will ease temptations
Hope this helps Posts: 5 Threads: 0 Joined: N/A August 17, 2022 at 7:11 PM There's pills you can get if your a total reliant on them, though off the top of my head I do not know the side effects to them. I know you get repulsed at nicotine, sick in fact. I start them Monday, so if I don't reply, the side effect was death. I tried this actually, it worked for a while but at times I forgot to wear it during the day. The reason nicotine is addictive is because it causes a dopamine rush in our brain. Alot of things cause dopamine rush and it’s olso the reason people get addicted to drugs. When you wait for something for too long, your brain releases a shit ton of dopamine and make you enjoy stuff like that.
You cannot control the dopamine level, people need dopamine to continue life. Dopamine can be raised by simply getting entertained, eating good, going to the gym.
You should learn new type of ways to distract yourself.
