WIFI antenna

Anyone here who tested/using an outdoor wifi antena, to catch long distance open wifi networks? An 15dBI directional antenna should have enough gain in order to work couple o miles (I guess).
Is this good for opsec? Any thoughs? Pros and cons?

I got you,  it looks opsec is not of high interest around here. I was studying more and came up with a better plan, but since no one likes the subject, I´ll close it here :) cheers!

hi piedro,

some people do care about opec here, but yet it's not the main interest.
don't give up tho

The main issue is that the antenna's need to work both way's i.e even if you have a massive antenna that can scan miles away its useless if the router can send anything back that range

Good point.
Wanted to add/ask, by send back that range--the target device's capability to send back that range of distance?--and beyond that are capability matters like channel, frequency, band, mode?

Yes exactly whatever device your connecting to for example a router will also need to be powerful enough to send a signal back which most can't are barely reach outside of a building without specialised equipment. As for frequency 2.4GHz tends to be better long range and 5GHz for speed but at a much closer distance as for bands that's more to stop the signal being lost in the noise or jammed by other devices on that range

to be honest, I did not taken this in consideration. I am about to make some tests, waiting for an antennat to be shipped. But what you say has logic

what antenna did you go with?

https://www.amazon.com/Tupavco-TP511-Antenna-Wireless-Directional/dp/B008FH5UTG this one. According to the specs, should work well and receive WIFI signals from long distances, but we shall see..
Still waiting to be shipped.
Any other strong OPSEC starting ideas? Like serious stuff (not just VPN or TOR, those cannot be trusted enough...)
