Fuzz are all about being messy. They'd stab holes in amps and pour water IN them to make them sound 'worse'. Whenever I thought about trying to emulate that garage sound, whats a better path; geting an old 30w amp and poking holes in the inside speaker dish, or use digital effects/VSTs? \"History is never fated to repeat, it just rhymes from time to time\" Posts: 1409 Threads: 33 Joined: Mar 2022 (July 27, 2022, 01:21 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 11:31 AM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 26, 2022, 01:41 PM)troubled2 Wrote: Bit messy sometimes but great guitar rock, this is very good

If you had a nice space to record in, then definitely go poking holes in stuff. Like a whole setup with drums too. But that's not always easy to come by. So for just sitting at home, there's absolutely all kinds of VST's you can get to reduce the quality. You want to cut out a lot of the high and lows, which you can hear if you run something like a Vinyl effect over the top. You could also then run an Impulse Response over it too, something that was recorded in an actual garage for instance, making it sounds 'smaller'. neoh̴̠̘̰͒â̷͓̥̗ͅr̵̜͉͇͆͑̽͝b̶̡̝͉͈̀̎̀̍i̸͌̅́ Posts: 5851 Threads: 240 Joined: Mar 2022 (July 27, 2022, 01:41 PM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:21 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 11:31 AM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 26, 2022, 01:41 PM)troubled2 Wrote: Bit messy sometimes but great guitar rock, this is very good

At least if you're going for a lo-fi garage rock type vibe. But the logistics of actually doing that aren't great. How often are you going to have all the time, space and equipment. And people. Don't get me wrong, you can do a lot with VST's and they're leagues better than 10 / 15 years ago. neoh̴̠̘̰͒â̷͓̥̗ͅr̵̜͉͇͆͑̽͝b̶̡̝͉͈̀̎̀̍i̸͌̅́ Posts: 5851 Threads: 240 Joined: Mar 2022 (July 27, 2022, 01:50 PM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:46 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:41 PM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:21 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 11:31 AM)HassaMassa Wrote: Fuzz are all about being messy. Interesting :) I'd love to hear an album purely done on busted gear, without any sort of mastering, would be chaotic lol There's a patch on Guitar Rig i got thats apparently 'Slash' but it's got so much reverb and delay that I reckon it's nicked from Devin Townsend. Sounds glorious though, I love when you can make walls of noise. \"History is never fated to repeat, it just rhymes from time to time\" Posts: 1409 Threads: 33 Joined: Mar 2022 (July 27, 2022, 01:52 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:50 PM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:46 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:41 PM)HassaMassa Wrote: (July 27, 2022, 01:21 PM)Dredgen Sun Wrote: Whenever I thought about trying to emulate that garage sound, whats a better path; geting an old 30w amp and poking holes in the inside speaker dish, or use digital effects/VSTs?
