They seem to be like the "underdog", quiet and reserved, no scandal of data leakage or breach. I intend on buying their services, any thoughts on it if I should? If so, why? :-/

Mullvad is good, but buy a voucher from a 3rd party dont buy directly from mullvad. Pay in xmr

This can be done here:

They natively support monero now if you haven't heard (just saw comment about this)

L -  thicc attack surface, and why would you want more than 1 party involved

"Attack surface" in the traditional sense doesnt apply here unless yourre using a VPN for security and not privacy. In the case of anonymity you want more parties involved. Its far more difficult to get multiple parties to collaborate than to get 1 party to collaborate. If you are using USER --> VPN1 --> VPN2 --> Internet you need to compromise both VPN1 and to VPN2 to prove anything. If VPN2 cooperates, all they can see is VPN1. If VPN1 cooperates, they can see your home IP and that your multi-hopping to VPN2. Due to VPN1 being the middle VPN, its unlikely they would be able to get to VPN1 without going through VPN2, therefore creating a system that requires multiple parties to cooperate. Imo, a single hop vpn doesnt do shit for anonymity, if your internet traffic was monitored they will be able to clearly see youre using a VPN and the IP of VPN. Why do you think TOR uses 3 hops? Its to avoid traffic correlation.

That's an interesting take. I never thought of this.

There is no company that is completely exempt from following their local laws and court orders, so keep that in mind. For legal internet usage or just torrenting, highly recommend. For shady stuff, look into Tor instead.

Definitely. Tor is great, but not if you need fast upload/download speeds. If you want to download large files like movies, but also want to protect your privacy as much as possible, a VPN is the best way to go. You'll get good speeds, ok privacy (not that good, but better than nothing), and won't slow down the Tor network for others.

Personally, I try to use Tor for as much as possible and only use VPNs if I absolutely need to, and then I use Mullvad.
