I was wondering if spotify premium is even worth it. It's quite expensive and I could always just download the .MP3 files to my favourite songs and listen to them on my phone.
I've been using premium for a year and my answer would be: yes... and no. The pros are the decently large music catalog and the fact that it's pretty much compatible with everything (even your car, possibly). But I've often found the app to be bugged (for example, two months ago the notification was not working for like a month) and the fact that not all albums are available. I'm still keeping my subscription, but I'd switch gladly if I could find something cheaper.
the recommendation algorithm is probably the only reason id use it . but i stopped using it because it is such a corrupt practices in that company. u could always get a hacked account easily though. they intentionally want hacked accs to boost income, ive heard. and it makes sense in a weird way.
As alternative, u can try self hosting koel, if u want to have a lot of mp3s on the server and then access it using a mobile app. Funkwhale is another option but its often laggy in my experience.

get spotx, https://github.com/amd64fox/SpotX it provides more features than the regular spotify client and has no ads.
For me, it's YouTube Music, I get rid of YouTube ads with the same payment, I find music I like, recommendations and access to the YouTube video if available in case I want to see it. Still, nothing beats carrying at least a few of your essential MP3s at all times.

I mean, if you plan on listening to the same songs on repeat, downloading the .mp3 files will work. but what I like the most about spotify is the similar songs that it automatically plays, there's a lot of songs that i didn't know the name of or even know existed that are really good. i also use it a fuck ton to just listen to music offline when i download the playlist. i don't mind paying 10 bucks every month for premium

It's not worth it, unless you can't stream music and have to download it. You can just use xManager and remove ads and restrictions on Spotify, pretty much the same as premium except the music quality isn't as high and you can't download songs/playlists.
