Yeah but look at the historical background. It only happened due to flukes and world events - both internal and external.
Every time I speak with Chinese folks, no matter of what political persuasion/background, they all talk about when not if will Taiwan reunite with China.
There is no other way as far as they r concerned. And the leadership has been beefing up the military for ages - mostly navy and air force - for that alone, it seems.

China undoubtedly world's greatest manufacturing hub cant afford to take a hit at this point as it would give due advantage to other Asian countries who are luring investors and been gazing for an opportunity to capitalize such possible opportunities...

Sensitive topic, as Chinese I always try to avoid this kind of topic while talking to people from Taiwan. I think young people from Taiwan try too hard to separate themselves from China to the point it looks a bit funny, as culturally we still share a lot in common. In older people you dont sense this kind of hostility, which I guess could be attributed to Taiwan's successful "education". But overall Xi might do it after seeing the Ukraine situation - if China wants to do it it's not a military question, but a political one, and we are kinda of isolated anyway.

A country the size of the moon invading a small island, ha, that would be so American of the Chinese to do such a thing.
