well android is more about being open source so everyone can use it to make there own devices where as iOS is only on Apple's products. Centralised control makes advertising / branding easier but with less choice where as companies like Samsung tend to embrace more open software like Android.

Do you remember when Microsoft tried to release the Windows phone?
Specific branding is sometimes good for pioneers, but has to differ enough from open software to establish brand equity.

Apple is very good at this marketing in tandem with their already existing market segmentation secured near windows' (its main competitors') infancy and alternative innovation.

As mentioned before, Android is open sourced which allows for a customized, yet familiar, tailored experience for its' customer base.
Immortality is subjective.

Android cannot create a brand since its only an OS and its an open source one. That's why its much easier to hack onto it rather than hacking into an iPhone. By using an open source OS you can see every weak spot in the code and use it against the consumers. They physically cannot create a brand because there is no point of doing it. Like seeing a Lamborghini ad on the TV. Makes no sense
